Johanna - Gift of God / Gudagåva

Photo: Jennifer Ferguson

She looks me straight in the eye, points her finger towards me and says:
"I am going to give you a task."
Without even knowing what, I already know there is no getting away from this one.
"You are going to write a blog about me!"

What can I write about a girl who's got everything already? And then some... Very few of us has got that extra sparkle, that extra chromosome.  But a few enlightened masters can claim they are living in the now the way you do, and to achieve the state of total non-judgement that you excel in: well, my dear little hobbit-daughter, I bow in front of you. I still haven't met a master like you. You know the meaning of love. Unconditionally.

But you don't want me to write about all those things, you want me to tell the world what you did yesterday. You cooked supper for the first time by yourself! When Moms was gone working and Paps sick. It tasted like the best meal I ever had!

Of course I am writing as a proud Father now, having been treated to a meal of a lifetime. There are, to be balanced, times I have been tested by you, when you disappear into your world of elves and fairies where I cannot find you and where your world is colliding with mine. But then again, who am I to say my world is more real than yours? I think I need a few more fairies in mine sometimes...

Truly you are a "gift of God" Johanna, you are the meaning of your name. How little did we know when you slipped into our lives! How much do all the parents know who still haven't experienced your affection? Sometimes the best gifts come wrapped in the most unlikely packages!

In a world that more and more needs your virtues, you and your kind is getting less and less common.

I remember me and Jennifer were talking about visiting the doctor a few years back. We were thinking about the possibility of having another baby and were going to ask him a few things around that:

"Would it be possible to check the unborn baby and..... would it be possible to have an abortion if the tests indicated that the child... wasn't a "Down's Syndrome"?

Just to see the reaction. The world is so upside down. And does not recognize it. You bring balance to it. By turning the down's-side up again.

In Asia 160 million girls are now "missing" due to ultrasound and abortion. Can we fathom the possible consequences of that? Prostitution, rape, armies, war...

You are truly a gift of God my girl. You have given me a task. And it is not about writing this blog, it is about learning to love the way you do. That is what the world needs.

There is no getting away from that one.

The unfolding tale of a hundred hymns

Wow! The power of setting your intentions...  Last summer I created a folder in my computer, and I had to give it a name. After giving it a quick thought I wrote: "Hundred hymns", in an attempt to be a bit poetic in the small space and time given.  There's a new hymnbook on its way in Sweden and a call has gone out for anyone who wants to contribute with proposals. I thought I ought to send in something before the deadline on New Years and the folder was created for this purpose.  I started to browse thru a life's worth of song creation and did not find much suitable, managed to come up with about 30 songs that I thought could work, after editing them quite substantially.  After that I fell ill in Covid. Little did I realise then how necessary this was for the developments that were to follow. For the first time in my life I had a personal and very tangible experience of life's brevity. And a reminder of the importance of taking every day as a precious gift.   N

Never Ending Peace And Love – Reflections on a first encounter with NEPAL

Part 1 My time in Nepal is drawing to a close. For this time... Impossible to summarise this amazing country, but in short it has been a peak experience. Peak time with peak people in peak country. The nature is unquestionably one of its kind, with both jungle and the highest peaks of this planet within sight. And the people, to a large extent poor, but with a richness of soul and spirit that is overwhelming; generous, kind, humble and proud at the same time. But most amazing has been our way to approach it; walking, talking and singing... I feel that our "Sång & Gång" concept, our "walk & sing" adventures that we now have developed for almost 30 years have found an ultimate form here. We walk into the villages, meeting people eye-level, share a song, and walk out of there with a garland around our necks and a blessing on our foreheads. And a smile in our hearts and a sense of taking part in a real transformative meeting. For both parties. All of this has
